Labor Standards Supervision Offices

If you are unfortunate enough to have problems with your employers, you may approach a Labor Standards Inspection Office （労働基準監督署, roudou kijun kantokusho） for advice （you can also visit with your nearest labor counseling corner or the Iwate Prefectural Labor Committee, 岩手県労働委員会, Iwate-ken roudou iinnkai）.

Foreign nationals, in particular, may find themselves at a disadvantage due to a lack of understanding of the Japanese employment system and customs, as well as misunderstandings arising from the language barrier.

Employment is based on a contract between employer and employee. Employers are obligated to pay the agreed wages, not use discrimination or force, and not to dismiss employees without valid reason.

All offices are open weekdays from 8:30 to 17:15. Closed on weekends and holidays.
